Jomon Period - 10,000BC - 300 BC | Jomon Tools discovered along Matsushima Bay Coasts, Shichigahama and Naruse Town. |
Yayoi Period - 300BC - 300Ad |
Residents begin using metal tools, hunting, planting rice and depending upon the sea. Rice cultivation tools from this period were discovered in near by Tagajo. |
Tumulus Period - 300 - 700 |
Farming and the rice crop flourish. Formal Hierarchy develops, influenced from mainland practices. Major tombs constructed. There is little in the remains of tombs or evidence of major cultivation, but evidence of tomb caves remain at Yakushido in Minatohama, Sunahama and Hanabuchihama’s Takayama. |
JINKI 1 - 724 | Nearby Tagajo established as a government center. Takenominoto or present day Minatohama in Shichigahama becomes the major port for the area. Remains of the Government Saltworks and trade are found in Toguhama, Hanabuchihama in Shichigahama. |
Enryaku 13 - 794 | Yakushido Shrine constructed in Minatohama. Yakushido was build to prey for the safe return of Sailors. |
Kenkyu 3 - 1192 | Isawa establishes the region of what is now known as Shichigahama. |
Keicho 8 - 1603 | In the 286 years between the rise and crumble of power in Sendai, Shichigahama was considered one for supporting axels of the domain. |
Kanbun 4 - 1664 | Modifications to the Nanakita River create transportation routes through supporting Nigatake, Fukudamachi, Miyaginohara and Sendai which supports an increase in farming activity in Shichigahama. |
Meiji 9 - 1876 | A town hall is established, recognizing the municipality of Shichigahama formed upon the merger of the 7 villages on the peninsula. |
Meiji 20 - 1887 | A road along the perimeter of Shichigahama completed. |
Meiji 21 - 1888 | Shobutahama Recreational Beach and residences established. |
Meiji 22 - 1889 | Village of Shichigahama established. Pop: 4,157. Takayama retreat for foreigners opens. Canal from Kitakami River to Abukuma River opened, Seizan Canal project carried on (started in 1883). Seizan Floating Toll Bridge completed. |
Meiji 37 - 1904 | 157 villagers go to war, 7 die and 78 injured. |
Meiji 3 - 1906 | Shobutahama Post Office completed. |
Meiji 41 - 1908 | First telegraph. Residences established at Hanabuchihama. |
Taisho 2 - 1913 | Privately managed Taidai Toll Bridge Collapses, replaced by ferry. Tsunami causes 91,583 yen worth of damage. |
Taisho 3 - 1914 | Plans and preparation started for Kimigaoka Park. |
Taisho 4 - 1915 | Town Hall at Shobutahama established. First gas powered engines on fishing vessels. |

Heisei 7 - 1995 | 375th anniversary Festival of Sister town Plymouth Celebrated. Sendai International Triathlon held in Shichigahama. |
Heisei 8 - 1996 | Bus line between Tagajo Bunka Center and Kokusaimura developed. Shichigahama original "Boyajyu" ice cream sold. |
Heisei 9 - 1997 | Town Pool changed to Salt Water. 24-hour home-helper service opened. |
